Layla’s journey began in the shadows—quite literally. She and her five siblings were born beneath a house, surrounded by filth, parasites, and uncertainty. Like so many puppies born to unspayed, unsupervised pets, their outlook was bleak. Without intervention, their lives likely would have ended before they ever truly began.

But that’s not where this story ends. It’s where it begins.

Enter a DARS foster mom—determined, compassionate, and unwilling to let this litter be forgotten. She crawled beneath that house and pulled them out one by one. What followed was weeks of care: treating parasite infestations, cleaning wounds, vaccinations, housebreaking, socialization, and eventually spaying and neutering.

Among them was one special little girl named LeeLee.

Thanks to that life-saving foster care and the resources DARS provides, LeeLee blossomed into a playful, healthy, loving puppy. She was ready to find a family—and find one she did.

Now named Layla, she’s found her place in the world, and in a home filled with joy and warmth. Her new family radiates the same love that brought her this far, and Layla returns it in full measure. She is no longer crawling in the dirt under a home. She’s on the couch, in someone’s lap, chasing dreams, and chewing toys.

From hopeless beginnings to a life of belonging, Layla’s story is a perfect example of what rescue is all about. It’s not just saving lives—it’s transforming them.
