Abby’s Happy Tail: Love at First Sight at Walk for Wags
Abby’s Happy Tail
Some adoptions are planned. Others are love at first sight.
That was the case for Abby—a beautiful pup whose journey took an unexpected but joyful turn thanks to a chance encounter and a family with hearts wide open.
Abby was being fostered through DARS when she joined us at our annual Walk for Wags ‘n Whiskers event. She came along for the ride, tail wagging and full of spirit, never suspecting that her life was about to change forever.
Among the DARS volunteers that day was a man who hadn’t come expecting to adopt—but then he met Abby. That moment was all it took. He turned to his wife and said, “She’s the one.”
And she was.
Abby wasn’t adopted by her foster family, but by one of our very own DARS volunteers—a rare and special kind of story that reminds us how deeply our mission touches not only the lives of animals, but the people who serve them.
Since then, Abby has become a cherished member of their family. The connection is mutual—you can see it in the way she looks at her dad, the way she leans in, totally at ease, totally loved. She didn’t just find a home that day—she found her person.
This story is a testament to what rescue is all about: showing up, being present, and letting love do the rest. Sometimes, all it takes is one walk and one wag to change everything.
